Taught by topiary artist Darren Lerigo, this 3 hour course takes place in the incredible setting of Waltham Place, where you will learn everything you need to know about pruning and making topiary - as well as getting some practise in as well! You don't need any experience either. Just a positive attitude to learn and immerse yourself in the world of green architecture. Bring your tools along (shears, snips, secateurs); no need to buy new (although it is lovely to have something fresh out the box!) as we can help you sharpen and clean everything up before we begin.
During the session you will:
- Learn about the basic tools you need for topiary, how to look after them and what to do with pests on your boxwood.
- Take a tour of the garden to see which plants can be used and what it is possible to do with them
- Learn the right technique for clipping
- Get clipping - practise makes perfect!
Darren believes that learning should be fun and practical so come prepared to do some pruning - it is, after all, the best way to learn.
"Thank you both for a truly inspiring day in the most wonderful setting, and especially for trusting us with your precious plants!"
Workshop Participant, 2020
We are running 2 courses over the day, each 3 hours long, so if you are travelling some distance to join us you may wish to book the afternoon session so you don't need to make such an early start.
If it rains, we will get wet - so come prepared for the weather.
Any questions, please do just ask. Spaces are limited, so book soon. You may also wish to share the idea with a friend, so do let them know!
Refreshments are included in the workshop.
